Prescription Opioids are a major driver behind the annually rising drug addiction and overdose rates, with more than 46,000 Americans losing their life due to opioids in 2017 (1), of which more than 17,000 deaths were prescription opioids. They have also shown to be a possible gateway drug to heroin.
Heroin
Heroin is one of the most addictive and dangerous substances in the world, killing more than 15,000 people in the United States every year.
Alcohol
Excessive alcohol use led to approximately 88,000 deaths each year in the United States from 2006 – 2010, shortening the lives of those who died by an average of 30 years. Excessive drinking was responsible for 1 in 10 deaths among working-age adults aged 20-64 years.(2)

Benzodiazepines
Benzodiazepines, a type of prescription drugs that are highly psychoactive and are often classified as depressants. Though it might sound harmless, this drug resulted in almost 12,000 deaths in 2017, only 20% less than Heroin.
Cocaine
