Liberty is a residential program that partners with local detox centers. Detox is often the crucial first step and Liberty can get you in a quality detox center within 24 hours.
The process of withdrawal from addictive substances isn’t easy on the addict and is safest when done by a medically supported detox. That’s why every detox process happens in the professional and experienced care of a licensed doctor, psychologist, and addictionologist. Our greatest goal is to make sure those in our care feel safe and respected. Of course, this experience is never easy, but our staff will make it as pain-free and relaxing as possible.
Withdrawal is never simple, but it can be done safely. To a certain degree, there will always be some level of discomfort. This can be lessened to an extent through medications that can only be administered by registered medical professionals.
Keeping the symptoms of withdrawal under control is vital to the beginning of a client’s time in a residential or sober living program. An individual who’s withdrawal went according to plan, without any large hiccups, can more easily keep any later symptoms under control. Our Utah Detox Center staff are qualified and able to keep the process entirely safe through exceptional monitoring. Although many addicts feel they can handle withdrawal on their own, it should be noted that those chronically addicted to certain substances should never attempt to detox on their own or attempt a cold-turkey detox.
If you’re looking for a Detox Center in Utah then we’d love to talk with you, even if it’s nothing but advice on what your next steps should be – our caring, dedicated and expert team of medical professionals would love to help you, or a loved on make the best choice in your rehab journey.

Medical Support & Professional Assistance
When working to withdrawal from opiates, alcohol, and benzodiazepine drugs, “maintenance” medication may be administered by a professional to help reduce the desire for and the need to be high. By choosing not to quit cold-turkey, the addict has more time to process what’s happening, and in turn, develop the necessary tools to avoid dangerous behaviors and conditions that might cause a relapse.
From Detox to Healing
If you need counseling or want to know about interventions or detox options for you or someone close to you, call Liberty with all of your questions. We’d be happy to walk you through our Utah Detox Center process and how our unparalleled approach to lasting recovery can uncover a brighter future.
Short answer: Liberty Addiction Recovery Centers can get you placed in a licensed Utah detox center within 24 hours, where medical staff manage withdrawal safely before you move into residential treatment. Liberty accepts Utah Medicaid, a rare option among Utah detox providers, and offers evening detox admission for people who cannot get away during the day.
Detox placement within 24 hours when medically necessary, through Liberty’s partner detox facilities
Utah Medicaid accepted, plus 10 other major insurance carriers
Evening detox admission for people juggling work or family obligations
Direct transition from detox into Liberty’s residential program in American Fork, no gap in care
Primary Mental Health facility designation, so co-occurring anxiety, depression, or trauma can be addressed from day one
Joint Commission accredited, with medical staff overseeing every withdrawal case
What Is Medically Supervised Detox?
Medically supervised detox means a team of doctors, nurses, and addiction specialists manage your withdrawal from drugs or alcohol so it happens as safely as possible. The Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA) describes detox as a three part process: evaluation, stabilization, and getting you ready for the treatment that follows. Detox alone is not addiction treatment. It is the first step that makes treatment possible.
Liberty is not a stand-alone detox facility. Liberty works with trusted partner detox centers across Utah and can typically get a client placed within 24 hours when detox is medically necessary. Once you are medically stable, our team helps you move straight into residential treatment at our American Fork facility, so there is no gap between finishing detox and starting the next stage of recovery. If you are still deciding whether you need detox or can start treatment directly, our article on the difference between detox and rehab walks through how to tell.
How Long Does Detox Take in Utah?
Most detox stays run three to seven days, though the exact timeline depends on the substance involved, how long you used it, and your overall health. Alcohol and benzodiazepine withdrawal usually need closer medical monitoring because they carry more serious physical risks than other substances.
Substance
Typical Detox Length
What to Know
Alcohol
3 to 7 days
Can be medically serious; monitoring is essential
Opioids and fentanyl
4 to 7 days
Medication can ease symptoms and cravings
Benzodiazepines
1 to 2 weeks or longer
Often tapered gradually rather than stopped at once
Methamphetamine
3 to 5 days
Physical symptoms fade faster than psychological ones
Heroin
4 to 7 days
Cravings can persist after physical symptoms resolve
Ranges above are general estimates based on published addiction medicine guidance, not a guarantee. Your care team will build a timeline around your specific health history.
What Substances Can You Get Detox Help For Through Liberty?
Liberty’s partner detox network and residential program treat people coming off fentanyl, heroin, prescription opioids, alcohol, methamphetamine, cocaine, and benzodiazepines. If you are not sure which substance page applies to your situation, call us and we will help you sort out the right next step.
Does Insurance or Medicaid Cover Detox in Utah?
Yes, in many cases. Liberty is one of the few detox placement and treatment providers in Utah that accepts Utah Medicaid as an in-network benefit, which is a significant access point for people who would otherwise struggle to afford care. Liberty also works with SelectHealth, United Healthcare, University of Utah Health, UMR, BlueCross BlueShield, Aetna, EMI Health, Molina Healthcare, Cigna, and TriWest Healthcare Alliance for veterans and military families. Use our Check My Insurance tool to find out what your plan covers before you commit to anything.
What Makes Liberty’s Detox Placement Different?
Most detox-only facilities in Utah are private pay and do not accept Medicaid. Liberty’s placement network does, and it is built to move you straight from detox into a full continuum of care rather than leaving you to find a treatment program on your own afterward.
24-hour placement. When detox is medically necessary, our team works to get you into a partner facility within a day.
Evening detox admission. Not everyone can walk away from work or family in the middle of the day. Liberty offers evening options so timing is not the reason someone delays getting help.
Dual diagnosis capability. As a Primary Mental Health facility, Liberty can address co-occurring depression, anxiety, or trauma alongside detox and residential care, not as an afterthought.
A real next step. Detox stabilizes the body, but it is not treatment. Liberty’s residential program in American Fork and outpatient programs in West Jordan give clients a clear path forward instead of a dead end.
What Happens After Detox?
Detox gets your body stable. It does not address the reasons you started using in the first place. After detox, most Liberty clients move into residential treatment at our American Fork facility, where trauma-informed therapy, medical support, and daily structure help build a foundation for lasting recovery. Clients who need a lower level of care can step down into our Partial Hospitalization Program or Intensive Outpatient Program in West Jordan. Liberty also offers sober living scholarships for clients who complete residential treatment or meet PHP entrance requirements, so housing is not a barrier to staying sober after detox ends.

Frequently Asked Questions
What is the difference between detox and rehab?
Detox manages the physical symptoms of withdrawal so a substance can safely leave your body. Rehab is the treatment that follows, addressing the behavioral, emotional, and psychological sides of addiction. Detox alone does not resolve addiction. Read more in our guide on the difference between detox and rehab.
How much does detox cost in Utah?
Cost depends on the substance, the length of stay, and your insurance coverage. Liberty accepts Utah Medicaid and ten other major carriers, which can significantly lower or eliminate out-of-pocket cost for eligible clients. Use our Check My Insurance tool to get a clear answer for your specific plan.
Can I detox from drugs or alcohol safely at home?
Attempting to detox alone, especially from alcohol or benzodiazepines, can be dangerous and in some cases life-threatening. Medical supervision allows staff to manage complications as they happen instead of after they become emergencies. If you are considering detoxing at home, call us first so we can talk through safer options.
Does Medicaid cover detox in Utah?
Utah Medicaid can cover detox and treatment services, and Liberty is one of the few Utah providers that accepts it as an in-network benefit. Coverage details vary by plan, so it is worth verifying your specific benefits before you begin.
How fast can I get into a detox center through Liberty?
When detox is medically necessary, Liberty typically works to get clients placed within 24 hours through our partner detox network. Evening admission is also available for people who cannot get away during standard business hours.
What happens if withdrawal symptoms are severe?
Severe withdrawal, particularly from alcohol or benzodiazepines, requires immediate medical attention. Our partner detox facilities have medical staff on site to manage complications like seizures or dangerous changes in vital signs. This is exactly why medically supervised detox exists instead of trying to detox alone.
