Role & Background:
Can you share a bit about your role at Liberty and how long you’ve
been here?
I am currently an outpatient therapist and I have worked at Liberty for
a year and a half.
What inspired you to work in the field of addiction recovery?
I actually kind of fell into the addiction recovery field during my practicum in grad school. The only internship that was available was at Valley Behavioral Health’s alcohol and drug unit. I ended up getting hired after my internship there and stayed for five and a half years. I took a break for a year and half focusing on OCD and anxiety disorders, but soon realized that substance use is where I feel at home and that’s when I found Liberty.

Personal Connection:
What’s your favorite part of working with clients at Liberty?
My favorite part about working with clients at Liberty is seeing when recovery clicks for them. I feel that everyone with addiction issues has to have that moment when they decide that they are done. It is truly beautiful to see when clients reach that moment and that’s when the healing begins.
Do you have a personal philosophy or way of supporting clients in recovery?
I’m not sure if I have a personal philosophy, but I think being in recovery myself has helped me to empathize with clients and hold space for them.
Memorable Moments:
Is there a moment or success story at Liberty that has stood out to you?
I would have to say something that has stood out to me while being at Liberty is the culture. I love how client centered the care is and how as a staff, we genuinely care about the clients. I have worked in other treatment centers where the clients were just another number or paycheck. Liberty is different and I love how we are a family here.
What’s one thing you hope every client takes away from their time here?
I hope that every client leaves Liberty knowing that they are worthy and loved.
Fun/Lighthearted:
What’s something about you that people might not know (a hobby, fun fact, etc.)?
One of my favorite hobbies is baking. I love baking pies, cakes, cookies, etc. Always from scratch of course! I also like to go to punk rock shows and I recently learned how to crochet which has been a lot of fun.
If you could give one piece of advice to anyone in recovery, what would it be?
One piece of advice I would give to anyone in recovery would be to reach out to your support when you are struggling. Staying connected in recovery is so important!
